Skinny Jeans are considered by many to be the uniform de jure for hipsters around the world. Some call them “nut huggers,” but basically, they’re just really tight pants or jeans that have come into fashion in recent years. If you’re a guy looking to enhance your wardrobe to make you more fashionable and perhaps land a date with a pretty lady, you may have considered the question—are skinny jeans manly?
Living in San Francisco, I’ve seen my fair share of skinny little hipsters sauntering up and down the street in their little skinny pants. Indeed, I’ve been shocked to see hot babes hanging out with such dweeby looking sissy boys. That got me thinking—has our society changed so much that women are now attracted to these guys over the traditional macho man with muscles? It’s a question that intrigued me so I thought I’d look into this phenomenon and do a post on it and where this trend may be taking us in the future.
From what I can gather, it appear that the skinny jeans trend has its start with the rise of the metrosexual. The metrosexual is a term that has come to define a movement where men began to focus more on fashion and grooming than ever before. It was once the case that to be “manly” was to not concern yourself with fashion trends or grooming. Rather, a true “manly” man was one who could build things and protect his lady from any potential threat or insult. That all changed with the rise of the metrosexual man, which is primarily an urban construct.
Anyway, in the 1990s baggy jeans were all the rage amongst those interested in keeping up with fashion trends. Something interesting happened in the mid-2000s though… skinny jeans started appearing. It’s sort of a rocker/skater look that seemed to drive some white chicks crazy. And because skinny jeans could only be worn, for the most part, by skinny dudes, the trend appeared to be limited to those who had the right build for such tight pants. In other words, if you were a big dude or even a guy who’s considered of average height and build, skinny jeans were impossible because they were just way too uncomfortable. That meant that this rocker/skater look that had the girls going wild over was limited to the skinny effeminate guys who previously never got a second look from girls.
So here we are in the year 2014 and the question becomes—if you’re looking to score a hot babe, are you going to have to start wearing skinny jeans!? It’s a legitimate question given the fact that if you just look around you’re bound to see a hot chick on the arm of a skinny jean wearing twinkle toes at some point on the streets of New York or LA or San Francisco.
The answer to that question depends on a number of factors. For starters, if you’re a big guy, there’s simply no way you can even attempt this. I saw a big dude in skinny jeans once and I thought it was a chick from the back. Scary. If you’ve got a build that is just too big for skinny jeans, you’re better off getting slim fitting or tailored pants that do not hug the legs too tight but are also fitted so that they are fashionable.
Now, if you’re a relatively skinny guy and you’re interested in donning a hipster uniform to trick some hot tattoo covered hipster chick into thinking you’re a hipster who knows all the cool underground bands and all sorts of other cool things then go for it! Why not? I mean, no one else will know you’re a completely fraud and the reality is that most of the skinny jean wearing little wannabee rockers you see are simply doing the same thing!
In the end, yes, skinny jeans and skinny pants are for girly men, but guess what that’s what a lot of hot chicks like these days. Think about it like this—back in the 1700s men ran around in stockings… now that’s some girly-man sissy shit. But hey, you can’t say they weren’t getting laid all the time. Women loved that back in the day. So the man stockings of the 1700s are the skinny jeans of today. So, I say go for it and get yourself a nice tight pair of pants and good luck out there! Be careful though, because they don’t call them “nut huggers” for no reason… they can reduce your sperm count and maybe damage your balls.
