Wassup. In today’s post I’m going to give some dietary suggestions for those of you interested in living longer, slimming down, maintaining healthy energy levels, and basically just feeling good.
Let’s face it, these days there are about a million blogs and websites online that all have advice for you on what you should be eating, or not eating. And 99 times out of a hundred those same websites want to sell you something, so you kinda need to take those suggestions with a grain of salt.
First off, lets clear something up…
Who Am I To Give You Dietary Advice?
I’m not a doctor. In fact, I have no medical or fitness industry credentials whatsoever. I’m not a personal trainer, scientist, yoga teacher or anything of the sort!
Rather, I’m just a guy who is really interested in health, fitness and nutrition, who has read a lot of books, and consulted with a lot of experts. I have also tried a lot of diets and foods over the years, so I know a fair bit about this stuff.
That said, if you have medical problems, go talk to a doctor, don’t take my suggestions as any sort of medical advice.
My Top 5 Dietary Suggestions For Being Healthy, Feeling Great & Unleashing Your Inner Badass…
1 – Get Your Omega 3 and 6 Levels In Balance
We’ve all heard about the importance of Omega 3 fatty acids, especially EPA and DHA. The truth is, that the SAD diet (Standard American Diet) is really bad for you and will put your Omega3-Omega 6 balance very far out of whack.
This happens because the SAD diet includes a lot of processed foods that contain “vegetable oils” that are high in Omega 6s. Not good. Even something that would seem healthy like Paul Newman’s Oil and Vinegar salad dressing is full of soybean oil, sunflower oil etc… yuck.
Omega 6s cause inflammation in the body and can lead to a ton of the worst health problems imaginable.
Don’t eat these oils, and don’t eat commercially raised meats, eggs, dairy etc… Instead eat lots of wild Alaskan salmon, grass-fed Kerrygold Irish butter, and coconut oil. High quality Olive Oil (in its raw form) is okay too, it has Omega 6s, but it has so many antioxidants that its still okay…
2 – Eat Your Greens
Kale, Collard Greens, Chard, Spinach etc… have tons of vitamins, and other substances that are ridiculously good for you. I’m not gonna go over the research, just trust me on this one.
Plus, when you are giving your body what it really needs you will stop craving junk food and overfeeding yourself, fact.
Most people eat hardly any of this stuff and they are making a big mistake. I used to try to drink green juice and smoothies a lot, but these days I mostly eat my greens cooked. They are good for you both ways. They are easy to cook too. Just get some pre-washed organic kale. Put it in boiling water, wait till its soft, and then eat it. You can get fancy and mix in grass fed butter and pecan slivers, or olive oil, salt, etc… Or just be an OG like me and eat is straight.
3 – Drink Coffee Or Tea
Coffee is good for you. So is green tea and black tea. I drink it everyday and it definitely will give you an energy boost. Plus you get a ton of antioxidants and other health benefits. I tried drinking that “bulletproof coffee” stuff (special mold free organic coffee with grass-fed butter and MTC oil in the blender) but it did not sit well with me. That said I know several millionaire bad-asses who swear by the stuff.
4 – Eat As Few Processed Chemicals As Possible
This should go without saying, but in case you didn’t know, artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, GMOs, pesticides etc… are NOT GOOD FOR YOU!
I know, its hard to avoid them. They are everywhere. But, if you make a point to choose organic foods, and base your diet around vegetables, meats, fish, fruits, grains, legumes, and basically just ‘real’ food, then you don’t need to worry about accidentally eating any of that stuff.
5 – Try Intermittent Fasting
Listen, I’m a pretty big guy, with a big appetite. So I hate the idea of “fasting”. That said, going for extended periods with no food is proven to provide a range of health benefits including fat loss.
I’m not saying to starve yourself, or to go over 12 hours without eating, but definitely try to go 10 hours or so everyday without food, and if you can throuw in a 16 or 18 hour stretch in there once or twice a week you may find that it improves your digestion tremendously. 18 Hours isn’t really that hard to do, just eat dinner at 6, and then don’t eat agin until noon the following day.
I hope that you have found these tips helpful. The truth is that eating right can have a huge impact on your life. Not only can it help you get the type of physique you want, but it can also help you stay healthy so that you can live longer and enjoy a better quality of life on a daily basis.
If your main reason for wanting to fiddle with your diet is because you want to get in better shape so you look more healthy and attractive – that’s cool too!
